U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama works with musicians to help families fight childhood obesity.
CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS, UNITED STATES (RESTRICTED POOL) - The First Lady Michelle Obama continues to promote her message of health with a little help from her friends including artists like Run DMC, Ashanti, Doug E. Freshand Jordin Sparks.
In support of the first lady's health initiative, "Let's Move", Hip Hop Public Health and the Partnership for a Healthier America will be releasing an album in September called "Songs for a Healthier America" in an ongoing effort to get children and families to living healthier lives through exercise and better food choices.According to www.letsmove.gov almost one in every three children in the United States is obese or overweight. The numbers are even higher in African American and Hispanic communities, where nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. Many others may face chronic obesity-related health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and asthma.
The new album has 19 tracks including "U R What You Eat", "Hip Hop F.E.E.T." and "Get Up, Sit Up"
While Michelle Obama won't be singing on the record, she does appear in the video for the song "Everybody".
Among her other efforts to get kids to eat healthier, Michelle Obama started a vegetable garden on the south lawn of the White House in 2009. It's the first time vegetables have been grown there since Eleanor Roosevelt's "victory garden" during World War Two.
