As part of 'London Collections: Men' menswear brand Hackett London showcased its Autumn Winter 2013/14 collection at St Paul's Cathedral in central London on Monday (January 7), with guests including model David Gandy and rapper Tinie Tempah.
LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (JANUARY 7, 2013) (REUTERS) - St Paul's Cathedral in London was turned into a venue for a fashion show on Monday (January 7) night as menswear brand Hackett London showcased their new British themed collection.
As part of London Collections: Men - a fashion week for men - select guests including rapper Tinie Tempah and model David Gandy were welcomed into The Crypt, an underground section of the cathedral, for the show.Hackett Founder and Chairman Jeremy Hackett, explained why they chose the unusual venue:
"We wanted something quite special and this has never been used as a fashion show venue so we thought it would be perfect and we've got the Duke of Wellington and Lord Nelson down the end there, so it's very, very British."
On display were a series of looks from Hackett's Autum Winter 2013/14 Collection, including morning coats in rich tweeds, capes and tartan trousers.
According to a company press release the tone of the formal wear focused range is best described as 'a thoroughly modern approach to dressing for dinner'.
Speaking to Reuters Television after the show, Hackett explained: "One of our themes has been a collaboration with The Prince's Trust, where we've resurrected the Prince of Wales check which of course has been worn by Edward VII, Edward VIII our current Prince of Wales so we have made a range of suits, jackets, luggage, over-coats, all made in England and to be perfectly honest it couldn't be more British."
And according to Hackett being British right now is no bad thing. His company exports goods all over the world and he says now is a great time for British brands:
"Everybody has this real appetite for Britishness I mean it's just, a big, big revival. We are very well placed which I think is great for all British brands really."
As well as a few famous faces in the audience, Hackett had a surprise famous female face on the catwalk - English model Erin O'Connor.
She appeared at the end of the showcase alongside one of the male models, before bringing Jeremy into the limelight to wave to the audience and press at the end of his show.
Still in its infancy, 'London Collections: Men' was created as a showcase for the wealth of menswear talent based in Britain's capital.
London Collections: Men continues until Wednesday January 9.
