The area around Kings Cross used to have a terrible
reputation for being rather down market and even as a red
light district. But since the early 90's the area has gone
through a major redevelopment and has now got rid of this
image. There are still many major redevelopment projects
planned for this area. One of the most notable has to be
the train station. Kings Cross station is one of the
biggest in Europe.
In 2007, the Eurostar terminus appeared at St Pancras.
Due to this many new buildings and shops have been built.
The old image is certainly in the past.
Since the mid 1880's, the train stations, London Kings
Cross and St Pancras International have stood. Between
them, they see nearly 50 million travellers each year.
Harry Potter fans will know all about platform 9 and three
quarter from the movies.
The nearest underground station is at Kings Cross St Pancrastube station and has access to the Circle, Hammersmith &City, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, and VictoriaLines. This is also a key zone 1 station. It is believedthe new Chelsea-Hackney line will stop at the station. Anincredible 66 million passengers use Kings Cross undergroundstation. Anyone who has experienced Kings Cross undergroundstation will tell you just how large and busy it is. There are a number of attractions. Like the BritishLibrary which made its new home there in 1997. CamleyStreet Natural Park, is also close by which is a 2 acreurban nature reserve on the banks of the Regents Canal. TheLondon Canal Museum displays information on the history ofthe London Canals. The area also boasts many luxurious hotels with excellentfacilities and amenities. For those travelling on abudget- don't worry- there are many cheaper hotels. The
hotels are perfect for travellers since they are on the
doorstep of the train station. For those abroad wishing to
visit the entire country, St Pancras is a major train station
with excellent connections.
There is still a great deal of things to explore both in the
vicinity and in wider London which I dont have time to talk
about here. You can very easily plan your next visit and
stay from the comfort of your arm chair. Allow plenty of
time for Kings Cross, since there is so much to do!
