For Fall 2011, American designer Donna Karan sees her woman in pale colored fabrics draped in elegant shapes.
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 14, 2011) DONNA KAREN COMPANY VNR - American designer Donna Karan showed off her Fall 2011 collection entitled "Pearls of Wisdom" at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Monday (February 14).
Modern, elegant shapes in sophisticated fabrics set the tone. Karan's color pallet was pale --the designer called it the "glow of pearls on skin"-- with ivory and light gray tints dominating throughout the collection. Her silhouette was lean, classically draped and tailored to show the body.A dove-gray jersey dress with her signature draping on the bodice paired femininity with power-women's wear. V-neck or V-backed blouses were paired with sheer scarves and high-waisted skirts, marrying fluid shapes with sculpted lines.
High-waisted slouchy pants were topped with a gray silk blouse. A luxe silver jersey dress was draped in front and back, with matching gloves finishing the look.
Outerwear varied in shape and fabric, from a simple flared belted wool coat or peach-skinned trench to a long haired shearling coat.
Many pieces were accentuated with a spray of micro pearls and sequins, and a recurring accessory was the slim belt nipping the waist and elbow-length suede gloves
with shearling cuffs.
Karan's evening wear was floor length and sensually draped out of satins and chiffons, embroidered with beads, pearls, crystals and platinum sequins.
The finale gown was a stretch jersey evening dress in a gray-pearl shade, gracefully draped with one shoulder slipping off the arm and an open back -- a signature Donna Karan look.
The 62-year-old Karan started her career at Anna Klein, and worked at the house until 1984 to start her own business with the mantra "to design modern clothes for modern people". She showed her first women's clothing collection in 1985.
