Katy Perry and Russell Brand tie the knot with a traditional Indian ceremony in Rajasthan.
RANTHAMBORE, RAJASTHAN, INDIA (OCTOBER 23, 2010) REUTERS - U.S. pop star Katy Perry and British comedian Russell Brand were married by a Hindu priest on Saturday (October 23) in a high-profile but closely guarded ceremony in Rajasthan, India.
Brand and Perry reportedly wore traditional Indian attire with the singer wearing a sari.
Perry was also spotted wearing a gold noth, a traditional bridal nose ring with a chain connecting to her hair, in the days leading up to her wedding. The groom is supposed to remove the nath on the wedding night.
About 80 guests watched the hour-long ceremony including British comedian Jonathan Ross.
Just as the sun began to set, a fleet of luxury cars drove the guests to the Aman-I-Khas luxury resort on the outskirts of Ranthambore wildlife reserve in north-west India where the couple wed to the sound of classical Indian music, Vedic chants and traditional dance in a lavish ceremony.
Tight security around the resort kept the camping paparazzi at an arms distance from the venue as the celebrity couple fulfilled their vow of getting married in India, the place where they got engaged earlier this year.
Workers and staff inside the resort were instructed to wear identity cards, not allowed to carry mobile phones or cameras and instructed
not to reveal anything about the proceedings inside the resort.
The couple met at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles in September 29 and Brand reportedly proposed to Perry while the couple were holidaying at the Taj Mahal last December.
The couple has had its share of controversies with the latest one on Friday (October 22) when Brand landed in trouble with the photographers after his security men assaulted them in the tiger reserve of Ranthambore as they shot pictures of the actor touring the reserve ahead of the wedding.
They said Brand watched as his body guards first beat up the photographers' jeep driver, then physically assaulted them and also
took away their jeep's keys, stranding them in the middle of the wild reserve.
They reported the incident at the local police station and demanded a written apology from Brand's body guard. Police summoned the security team as well as Brand's body guard to the police station to resolve the issue.
They made headlines last month when Brand was arrested following a scuffle with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.
