GRAHAM ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA (CBC) - A Canadian man who went exploring an isolated beach in British Columbia's Graham Island made a remarkable discovery recently.
A rusty Harley Davidson motorcycle, with Japanese plates, washes up on the coast of British Columbia -- believed to have been swept into the Pacific by last year's devastating tsunami in Japan.
Peter Mark came across a big white trailer containing an unmistakable rusty Harley Davidson motorcycle with a Japanese license plate.
Mark says he took pictures and left everything untouched.
Upon further examination by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which first reported the story, and the Japanese consulate, the license plate of the motorcycle is said to be registered to Miyagi Prefecture, a region hard hit by the Japanese tsunami almost 14 months ago. The photos of the white container appear to be a perfect fit with the back portion of a common Japanese moving van.
Japanese authorities are now trying to find who owns the bike and whether they are still alive.
More than 1.5 million tons of tsunami debris has drifted across the Pacific Ocean toward Canada's West Coast. But so far, only small items have been found.
