New Zealander, Jed Mildon becomes the world's first BMX rider to land a triple back flip.
TAUPO, NEW ZEALAND (MAY 28, 2011) TVNZ - Jed Mildon became the first BMX rider to successfully complete a triple back flip on Saturday (May 28, 2011).
The 24-year-old New Zealander completed the stunt in front of an estimated 2,000 onlookers in his home town of Taupo on the countries North Island, making it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
"Well I did tell you all five years ago this is what I was gonna do and none of you believed me so, yeah, I guess I get the last laugh," said a confident Mildon
Mildon has already started planning his next project.
"In my mind I've started planning the next project but I definitely, hundred percent know the world aren't ready for it," he said.
Mildon spent months planning the stunt and each detail was carefully thought out, before he rode the down the 20.11 metre ramp (66 feet) to flip through the air.
"I taught myself how to bail out to of it, hoe to bail first flip, how to bail second flip, and if I did go all the way to the third flip and need a bail I taught myself how to bail out of that flip, so I took all the correct precautions," he said
Despite his calm exterior, Mildon was nervous on the day of his big event.
"Wake up feeling like you are are about to have a heart attack, shivering sweating in the early hours of the morning," he said.
On the same day as his world record, Mildon attempted the world's first double backflip tailwhip but failed to land properly. He walked away uninjured.
