A bridge in Brazil 's business capital Sao Paulo becomes a runway for a beachwear fashion show.
SAO PAULO, BRAZIL (MAY 12, 2012) (REUTERS) -Brazil 's top swimwear brands transformed Sao Paulo 's main bridge into a catwalk on Saturday (May 12) night as models in bikinis showcased the upcoming summer trends.
The unusual runway, which is also one of the business capital's symbols, was chosen by the show's organisers because it contrasted with the settings commonly used by beachwear labels.
The show is the first of a series of fashion events that will take place in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo over the next weeks.
Top models like Isabeli Fontana and transvestite Lea T. stole the show as they trotted along the bridge above the Pinheiros River .
Business director, Tamara Culbe, said she was delighted by the innovative show.
"Wow, this was a wonderful experience. The view from here is unbelievable and everything was fantastic. I have never gone through such a wonderful experience. I loved it very, very much," she said.
Fashion designer, Graciela Starling, said the event showed that beachwear is also for big cities.
"What is happening is that beachwear is bringing bikinis closer to streetwear. So swimsuits are no longer only for the beach and they proved Sao Paulo is very open to beachwear which was showcased here today," she said.
Six labels presented their latest creations along the bridge in shows that lasted for about 40 minutes in total.
