An American claims he broke the world land lawnmower speed record after taking his custom-built grass cutter to a speed of 96 miles per hour on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats. Jon Decker reports.

GOLD EAGLE CO. - If you're looking for a really fast way to mow your lawn, this may be the answer.

At the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, American Bobby Cleveland drove took his custom-built riding mower to 96 miles per hour -- a speed that Cleveland claims broke the world lawnmower land speed record.

 DRIVER BOBBY CLEVELAND, SAYING:

"Man, now that is the fastest I have ever been on a lawnmower. 96 miles per hour. Unbelievable. It was great. It ran great."

According to Gold Eagle, the automotive supply company sponsoring the event, Cleveland broke the previous land speed record for lawnmowers held by British driver Don Wales.

Cleveland has been hoping to break 100 miles per hour.
